launch

April 12, 2025

after a long conversation with Mentor last night i've decided it's time to show the world a glimpse of what's possible with the Dream Machine™. he doesn't like that i even mention his existence in this diary, but if i don't, his contributions will be lost in the winding annals of history. soon i will release some sounds, the first in history, to be created from the raw synesthetic and hallucinatory realm of dreams. the astral plane has much to teach us if i continue to build the precise devices which can interpret its chaos.

to organize the launch of these oneiric sounds and images, i've assembled a small team of brain-computer interface hardware specialists, pharmacologists, and software engineers under the umbrella of the Synesthesia Corporation. they are each experts in their respective fields and will scale the capabilities of the Machine more than i ever could alone. i continue to be the sole astral manipulator on the team, the veritable guinea pig, who uses the Machine every night.

i've been experimenting with chemicals which induce more powerful lucid dreams. namely the family of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors appear to be the most promising category. the mechanism is not fully understood, but generally flooding the synapse with acetylcholine appears to be an effective way to put the sleeping mind into a sort of "super-REM" state which is accompanied by hyper vivid dreamscapes. i have also been practicing how to induce a lucid state of awareness and control within dreams. once i gain awareness, looking down at my hands to embody myself, and then focusing on a detailed area of the dream environment, seem to be the best system to generate peak intensity and control. it changes me from a floating point of consciousness to an actual body, and it changes the dream from a vague cloud to a precise setting. from there, flying at extremely fast speeds, or simply warping to a faraway place, seems to generate the most interesting data for the Machine. if i feel myself waking up, i rapidly spin in circles. for some reason this seems to ground me back into the dream so i can continue to compose.

i will be experimenting with more chemical families, and lucidity techniques, to see what i can make. i continue to look for someone truly talented at astral travel: the second subject for testing the Machine. it's fascinating how no amount of musical training matters in this new paradigm. the vastness of the imagination is all that matters...
